According to the Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, though the Hanoi’s tourism is regarded as a potential gold mine for the capital city, its performance to boost the development of the sector has been limited.
Hanoi is endowed with lots of tourism advantages including excellent cuisine, beautiful landscapes together with historical relic sites, craft villages and low spending costs. On the other hand, these advantages have not been fully tapped to change Hanoi capital into an attractive tourism destination due to a lack of renovation, announced by the Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Pham Quang Nghi at a March 7 working session with the Hanoi Tourism Corporation.
In addition, he also recommended the Hanoi tourism sector should boost to upgrade the wide range of tourism facilities in hope of promoting Hanoi’s images to the world as well as helping tourism managers and staff improve their professional skills.
The statistics showed that the capital city greeted 2.58 million foreign tourists, earning US$ 1.83 billion and accounting for 14-15 percent of its GDP. This year 2014, the city expects to attract about 3 million foreign tourists.
